About Valerie
Valerie Lawson is a multi-award-winning makeup artist, beauty educator and beauty consultant with over 17 years of experience across Africa, Europe and North America. Renowned for her exceptional artistry and expertise in working across diverse skin tones, she continues to redefine beauty through creativity, education, research and innovation.
She is the Founder of CVL Beauty and a Lecturer at the University of the Arts London (UAL). Valerie made history as the first African Artistic Director for Maybelline New York, leading campaigns and creative direction that celebrated inclusive beauty. Her work spans commercial, TV and film, editorial and bridal projects, with an impressive client list that includes H.E. Kamala Harris, Bozoma Saint John and Samira Bawumia.
Beyond artistry, Valerie is deeply committed to shaping the future of the beauty industry. Through the Valerie Cares Foundation, she empowers and educates young creatives, creating access to training, mentorship and opportunities across the African beauty and fashion landscape.
